This is one of the commonly or most widely spoken about topics. Simply put, Divorce is the legal ending of a marriage. Divorce, being a legal process involves issues of alimony(spousal support),child custody, child support, and so on. Even though, in a lot of ways, divorce puts an end to traumatic marriages or unfavourable unions, it is still one issue religions and cultures fight against. People who get divorced are accorded little or no respect at all in such religious or cultural societies, and in some of these cultural or religious societies, a second marriage is frowned at.
There are several reasons Divorce becomes the only option left in a scuttle union and some of these reasons include: domestic violence, infidelity(this has become the most common reason), neglect(communication-wise and sexually/emotionally), personality clash, lack of independence, and in some cases, sexual abuse.
Divorce lawyers would testify to the fact that the process of a divorce is a stressful experience, and the children are the ones who are deeply affected by it all. They are the ones who have to live with the trauma of having both their parents separated. Most divorces do not end in peace treaties, some of these divorces leave scars that last a lifetime. These scars are mostly psychological on the part of the children. Depression, poor social skills, and poor academic performance are also some of the scars.
While some countries do not enforce laws against divorce, other countries use religious laws as a way to enforce their disapprovals towards divorce. One of these religious law is that of Islam. Islam is found to accept divorce, and it can be initiated by either the husband or the wife, however, these initiations are subject to conditions and waiting periods, and this waiting period is meant to bring the party deciding on the divorce, to reconsider his/her decision on the issue of divorce. As for christianity, their views vary with denominations despite the holy Bible's instruction which doesn't support divorce. For instance, catholic teachings allow only annulment, but other denominations discourage divorce but allow it.
In the U.S., the rate of divorce as the centuries go by, is appalling. 40-50percent of marriages in the U.S. end up in divorce, this means out of every 2.4million marriages, 1.2million of these marriages end in divorce. In canada, the rate of divorce increased by 50% as at 2013. India, not minding its strong, rich cultural and religious values, has reached an estimated rate of 2100 cases per year. In Russia, the rate as at 2014 has increased to 65.4%, which seems to be the highest number of cases so far.
Not much has been done to reduce the continually increasing rate of divorces, except for proffered solutions provided by marriage counsellors. Needless to say, there isn't much to be said or done to prevent divorce. This is because half of these marriages weren't built on the right foundations, hence, their dissolution.
In conclusion, divorce has been a solution to unfavourable unions, yet, it remains the reason for misbehaviour in some children. In its own way, divorce solves problems, but creates more problems.
THE END!!!
